I am not usually in the business of being envious, because there's really no point to it, everybody has their own min-max stats and nobody is perfect, others' sucesses are to be celebrated but not to be used as a stick to beat ourselves with.

That said...

I found a beauty youtuber whose content us mainly stitching a bunch of her short videos on douyin. And my moots, I have genuinely never felt such envy in my life.

She's beautiful, but that's kind of the default. She's obviously rich, but that's not surprising. She's genuinely FUNNY, which made me love her and follow her. She has a husband who seems to genuinely match her freak like two puzzle pieces, which is where I kind of started going off the rails.

And then I found she also does COSPLAY, and her makeup skills are genuinely good enough to make her an SFX artist.

Like. Come on!!! You can have any combination of the five traits above, that's normal and good, but to have all five maxxed out!?!?!? Who allowed this???? What kind of karma has she accumulated in the past life???

Anyway. I am feeling new things and I am trying VERY HARD to be a good sport about it.

Westworld 4x08 : Que sera sera

They fail. They completely fail. Like, they suceed to get the best failure, but it's still a fail : the world that OG Dolores wanted, where humans and hosts could coexist, can't happen anymore. Or it can but only in the Sublime. Or maybe not ?

-First, Maeve isn't back ?! Like, okay, it's logical : ot would be giving too much credit to Charlores to hope she brought her back, and anyway, if Maeve was back, it would probably to die in this episode. It's better if she comes back in next season. I think they need characters in the real world actually, Caleb and Frankie are still there. But if the last episode was really the last we see of Maeve, I would be really disappointed : look at how the deaths of OG Dolores in season 3, Bernard and Charlores were sacralised, with music and emotion, concluding well their characters arcs, and tell that if she really dies, Maeve, who is an as much important character than them, doesn't desserve the same treatment and not being shot in the head by surprise.

-Clementine, Clementine, Clementine...can someone explain me the point of this character : like, she's first a host in the park, then Wyatt's pawn, then Charlotte Hale's pawn, then Maeve's friend but truly this time, then Charlores's pawn, and she's finally free, only to be an obstacle in Caleb and Frankie's way and only the years she spent with Charlores seem to count. Her relationship with Maeve doesn't even count, and actually it's correct because they were friends only in lifes imposed by humans. She's just a plot device actually ? If it's that, fine, but I don't understand why there's so much focus on her.

-NOOOOO STUBBS ! I know that Bernard said he wasn't going to survive, but i hoped that, maybe, Bernard lied because he was the one who was going to die and he couldn't say it to Stubbs. Well, maybe Stubbs' pearl hasn't been destroyed, if Charlores survived because William didn't shoot her precisely on the center of her head, Stubbs shouldn't be dead because Clementine opened his head by his eye. But Bernard said it was the end for him...but he said the same to Maeve and I think the writers need characters in the real world, so let's see in next season.

-Let's talk a little about Frankie and Caleb's surviving : it's useless. Like, if the real world is really meant to be abandoned, we actually don't care to know if Frankie is going to survive, the only important thing is to know if Charlores is going to stop William. We could see the last scene, so we would know that Frankie got a "happy ending", but spending so much time on them ? And the point of not seeing Caleb dying ? I think, before collapsing, he's the one who'll bring Maeve back next season. And I think that these characters, who stayed in the real world, have still a role to play for the last test, and for the new world. Dolores judged the Sublime as a golden cage in season 2, so I don't think it is the next world.

-Charlores has been my favourite character this season : her tragic (and, well, desserved) end is, in my opinion, as suceed as OG Dolores' end at the end of season 3. After trying to build the best world for her kind while not even knowing what is good for her, she realized how she messed up everything, creating a world in which extinction is the only possible ending, and she accepts to play her last role, to do the last thing she can do for her kind, before ending her life because she's not the one who can build the world she wanted. That's really the version of Dolores who got the most tragic story. I especially love the moment where she told host!William that he's not William, even if he imitated him and lived in his body, because that's the same for her : even if she imitated Charlotte Hale and lived in her body, she still is more Dolores than Hale, and we can see it in this episode.

-And Christina...I don't understand. Like, I understand how she was in the world, I understand that she got a travel to consciousness like Dolores did in season 1, speaking to herself with characters of her own creation before understanding it was her own voice. But I don't understand...is she OG Dolores ? The fact that she had her own travel to consciousness, different of OG Dolores' own travel, and reached a different conclusion (while OG Dolores concluded that humanity should be destroyed, and even of she redeemed herself after, it was too late because she had created Charlores and doomed the world, Christina, despite of Teddy's instances, actually her own instances, wants to gives humanity a last chance, a last test, which gives hope for the future) implies that she is not OG Dolores, but another version who started at the beginning and followed a new path, but the facts that Charlores called her Dolores and that Christina said she remembered everything implies that she is OG Dolores. But in this case, how ? OG Dolores' data were erased. Is Christina's pearl OG Dolores's pearl ? I feel like we don't get answers. But Christina has a new game...I think it's fidelity test, and it connects the dots with the season 2 post-credits scene : if William can "change his code", then everyone can.

-You could think that I'm complaining about this episode, but I really enjoyed it, and I enjoyed all the season. The situation of season 2 inversed with the hosts reacting to the humans becoming crazy was great and fun, this season is actually the first which made me ship Dolores and Teddy (wait, it wasn't actually Teddy, did I ship selfcest ?), the fight between Charlores and the man in Black was great, the scenes between Frankie and Caleb were touching. But. This season feels more like a defeat in order to prepare the victory at the end of the show, in season 5. And I really want to see it. So please HBO, renew Westworld for a fifth season.

I'm creating my own post in order to avoid adding negativity to someone else's, but I will link the post that inspired this one for context. This post talks about the theory that King Loki is the one pulling the strings, and it's mostly a theory that I can get behind as laid out by OP, but I have a serious problem with the role Sylvie may play in it, which is what this post is about.

So, okay, I was with [OP] right until this part -

Except, King Loki never met Sylvie. King Loki is everything Show Loki could’ve become if he hadn’t met her. Who he still could be, because it’s possible for him now to kill King Loki and take his place. But he won’t do that, because meeting Sylvie set him on a different path. Because she taught him how to love himself, he can let go of his need to grasp at power to feel special and important and in control of his life.

I'm not saying this is wrong (and my criticism is no reflection whatsoever on OP's theory in general, which is pretty sound overall), but I am saying that if the show chooses to go this way, I'll probably rage quit. It's a lazy trope to fall back on - that the only thing that could prevent Loki from becoming an evil mastermind and/or supervillain is meeting "the one" (in this case, Sylvie) and falling in love with her. It's so over simplified.

For one thing, I don't see how Sylvie taught him anything, let alone how to love himself. They may have a bond even after knowing one another such a short period of time; I'll give them that, since they're variants of one another and that strips away some of the layers and allows them to connect more easily. But Sylvie's existence isn't a lesson and while Loki may admire her for what she's accomplished, it doesn't automatically mean he can see himself capable of the same things. Whether he is capable or not isn't the point. He clearly doesn't hold himself in as high regard as he holds Sylvie (which is super in-character for him, to downplay his own strengths and potential even while recognizing the value in someone else's). Maybe he can learn to view himself as favorably as he views her, but to me, that's not what "teaching someone to love themselves" means.

(It's worth mentioning - but I won't digress too much - that at this point in the show, Sylvie shows no indication that she returns Loki's feelings, nor has she gone out of her way to build him up or show him that he's worthy of love, so it really is just Loki's feelings for her that we're relying on, that this point, to carry the love story.)

To be honest, I don't think he even necessarily views Sylvie as a variant of himself, as much as he views her as a separate person. She may know what it feels like to be a Loki, but her experiences are so different from Loki's and her path is so far diverged that it's more akin to meeting someone who knows what it's like to struggle with depression (or mental health in general): their perspectives are similar, and their emotional cores may align, and meeting may make each of them feel like they're not so alone - but she is Sylvie and Loki is Loki and neither one of them can step into the other's shoes and know exactly what it's like to be them. The way that he interacts with her implies that Loki is aware of this - that is, he's aware that they are two separate people, even as Mobius insists that they're the same.

So my point is, even if Loki admires Sylvie or falls in love with her bc of reasons, I would still fail to see how that put him any closer to loving himself. But say it did, for arguments' sake, since that's what the writers are going for. I still feel like it would be lazy to say that this is the one thing that stops Loki from becoming the most evil version of himself. It undermines Loki's legitimate trauma and layers of issues, like his fear of abandonment, his crippling lack of self-esteem, his belief that his worth has never been equal to that of Thor's, his identity crisis and struggle with the idea that he is "a monster," figuratively and literally. By virtue of all of these things being major contributing factors to Loki's fall and his villainy and his need for power to feel in control - which I believe that they are - it would naturally follow that, unaddressed, these would be the major contributing factors to Loki becoming more and more evil until we have a King Loki masterminding the TVA (and, by extension, the timeline, the multiverse, and free will itself - like, that's some pretty significant evil, or at least power).

(Again, it's worth acknowledging that it didn't go that way for Prime!Loki, who proved more than once that he was a good person at heart, and he never met Sylvie either - but, that's beside the point right now.)

But Sylvie can't be the sole person who inspires Loki to address these things, nor would these things just go away or fail to hold the same weight once Loki meets and falls in love with her. Loving Sylvie doesn't change that Loki is a frost giant and has never come to terms with that. It doesn't mean he's suddenly not afraid of abandonment, or of being alone. It doesn't fix the complicated twist of emotions (understatement) Loki feels when it comes to Thor and the concept of worthiness and the truth of their parents' love for them.

At best, one could argue that Sylvie may act as a support system that Loki might not have otherwise had, which would allow him to then confront and untangle his way through these issues to ultimately suceed in becoming the best version of himself. This still renders her role in Loki's life a supporting one as opposed to the one thing that can stand between Loki as he is now and Loki as he has the potential to be (in this case, a full-fledged supervillain).

Loki's issues are issues that will not go away until Loki faces them head on and does the work. Which is a journey, admittedly, too long and complex to be accurately portrayed on-screen in a limited series, but the narrative can either imply that Loki's journey is one of self-love with his feelings for Sylvie acting as a catalyst to his working through the things standing in the way of that self-love - or, it can skip all of that and say that Loki's self-love journey begins and ends with his love for Sylvie, and not only does this "fix" him but it's also the one thing that prevents him from becoming a supervillain who presumably controls all of these things - the TVA, the timelines, etc - without remorse.

I, personally, would have no interest in the latter option, so if it does go that way, I think that'd be it for me. And I realize that a lot of my argument here is focusing on Loki ending up as King Loki, which is still speculation and it may not go that way at all. But I think that - since the show has confirmed it's going to explore self-love through a romance - my points about Sylvie's ultimate role in Loki's journey of self-acceptance are still worth mentioning, I think.

Manifest your DESTINY, believe YOU CAN achieve your goals, know where you wish to get to in life, remain determined, work hard, anything is possible, Wars, Disillusionment, economic difficulty, division none of these things will hold you back once you understand you WILL SUCCEED regardless of their negative INFLUENCE. It's all in the mind stop watching the propaganda machine the television or Netflix you don't need to be brainwashed you have all that it takes to succeed within you already, you just need to take the steps to succeed and you already know what they are. Embrace your own intellect, distance yourself from doubt it is a limiting force but you cannot be limited unless you choose to be. Your mind WILL think what and how you programme it to think.

negative people, doubters, haters, scumbags, ditch them all, you are only afraid because you have fallen out of the habit of thinking for yourself, YOU DO NOT NEED THEM, they have fed off you for far too long. They repeat limiting affirmations to your subconscious mind near constantly I bet you have started to catch yourself repeating negative self sabotaging thoughts to yourself lately, 

HUMANITY is not doomed, we are not more divided than ever, we are not desperately battling against the evil tide of debt others have piled up for us to pay back. We have validation, we have worth in this world, we are Men and we are Women with a lot to offer the world.

No more moping expecting  the world to apologise for inconveiniancing us with hardship because like it or not we have chosen our own hardship through the choices we have made for ourselves. 

I refuse to believe as some in my country do that whites and blacks are doomed  to conflict with each other, I refuse to believe as some do that our Indian brothers and sisters are our enemy or are a threat to us. The days are upon us all to accept each other's right to exist regardless of whether we feel disgust, hate, envy or bitterness in each other's company.

I experimented by making friends with people I hated, pretty soon I realised I didn't hate them at all I was reluctant to confront things about myself I would rather have ignored. Now that I have faced up to these things I am all the better for it. 

Accept the LIMITLESS, ENDLESS possibilities of an ever expanding, growing Universe remembering "As it is in Heaven so it is on Earth" - (which I choose to interpret as: the Universe expanding=your mind expanding, growing, learning, accepting, evolving, becoming, or in a word POTENTIAL.
